Framigham-
A local man who was allegedly too drunk to stand up when police tried to put him in handcuffs also apparently didn't notice he had dragged a traffic sign he had hit earlier under his truck to the train station, police said.

Joao Batista Barreto, 25, of 37 Highland St., was arrested at 11:58 p.m. Thursday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, driving with a suspended registration, driving with no insurance, operating to endanger and leaving the scene of an accident, police said.

After hitting a town-owned sign, Barreto allegedly drove his truck from Hollis Street to Hollis Court, said Lt. Paul Shastany, leaving a trail of fluid behind him. He allegedly also damaged both left-side doors of another person's car, scraping them with the sign that stuck out on the right, he said.

Police stopped Barreto in front of the commuter rail station on Waverley Street, said Shastany. He was unsteady on his feet and almost tripped over the sign when he got out of the truck, police said.

Police said Barreto had glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol. They had to hold him up when they were placing him in custody, said Shastany. He was identified using a passport photo.
