Make sure it's not pressing up against anything because it'll power the Palm on and you'll lose power completely. I kept having the problem in my purse. Apparently Palm makes a patch to fix it. I've been having the same problem with the losing of all the data even after a few minutes of completely dead battery. If you find a solution to this problem, please let me know.
