QUEENS FOR COURAGE UPDATE
Since you are reading this, I would like to personally thank you for your interest in Queens For Courage and our upcoming ¡§Celebrate Freedom Pageant¡¨ scheduled for
1 March 2009 at the Henry County Performing Arts Center, located in McDonough, GA. If you have taken a look around our website (www.queensforcourage.org ) you have probably noticed under the Photo section that our current queens have played a very significant role in community service and raising awareness for our Wounded Warriors.
This year's pageant will crown 16 new queens - will you be one of them? :)
Here is some information that may be important to you:
Registration/Payment: If you register early, you will be eligible to enter all events for $90 - this includes all optionals, overalls, and supreme titles. There is a button on the front page of the website where you can conveniently pay pageant fees. For those that are uncomfortable with paying over the internet, you can mail your payment to:
Queens For Courage
P.O. Box 2881
McDonough, GA 30253
Remember, this must be postmarked, or paid online, NLT 20 Feb in order for you to receive the discounted entry. If siblings/mom/grandma/aunt/etc. would like to participate from your family, there is a 50% discount for each family member.
Pageant timelines: The little ones will start at 1:00 sharp. Depending on the number of entries, we may run the entire pageant without an early crowning. Our hope is that you will let all your friends now about this fundraiser and that we will find it necessary to break this into two parts. Please check the website message board for constant updates.
Photography: There are no cameras or video cameras allowed in the auditorium of the Henry County Performing Arts Center. There will be a photographer taking pictures throughout the pageant. These can be purchased and printed on the spot. Extra lights from flashbulbs are very intimidating to some girls and serve as a distraction, causing possible unnecessary injuries. We would like all those crowned as queens to stay until the end of the pageant for group photos.
Dress: Remember - you will be up on a stage, so make sure your dress is the appropriate length. We will not ask anyone to buy a new dress for this pageant. Many of you already have pageant/prom dresses - we do ask that you dress appropriately for this event - we are representing Service-members and their families - PLEASE do not wear dresses with high slits, exposed abdomens, or very revealing cleavage lines. You will be allowed to continue in the pageant, but the judges will know exactly what we are looking for when it comes to dress. If you have ANY doubts and have a pic - send it to me at molly@queensforcourage.org and I will let you know for sure. For the Mrs and Senior Ms categories ¡V most do not have a gown in this category and typically do not compete in pageants. In this category, you can wear a gown, semi formal, or even your Sunday best ¡V we are looking for personality in your divisions as you will be the group of ladies our younger categories will typically look up to. Again, a respectable outfit is all we are looking for. If you have questions, ask! ƒº
Makeup: We remind you that we are looking for outgoing, confident young ladies to help us raise awareness and support for Wounded Warriors. While stage makeup is appropriate, please note that natural looking and age appropriate is what we want to see.
Hair: There is no need to spend a lot of money on a hairstylist. If you choose to do so, please ensure hair and makeup are complete prior to your arrival at the Performing Arts Center. Hair can be left down or in an updo - whatever is comfortable for you and looks great with your dress. My normal rule on color of dress, style of hair, and level of makeup is: If you love it, you'll show more confidence and style during your stage performance. Do what is comfortable for you - if you have ANY questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Judges: You will not know any of the judges, so please do not ask. We have chosen community leaders from across the state of Georgia - I guarantee you will be impressed with the standards these judges will bring to the pageant. As you know, Miss Georgia 2008 will be in attendance as both a judge and a performer. If you do know her, please do not compromise her position as judge or Miss Georgia by emailing or calling her. You will do great without any outside influence. :)
Photogenic: You do not need formal photos for this event. A school photo, backyard snapshot, or something from a photographer, are all acceptable. We are looking for a photo that truly captures your/your child¡¦s personality. Do not bring retouched photos or "glitz" photos. There will be a winner in each category and the person with the highest photogenic score will be crowned as the Overall Miss Photogenic.
Hostess Category: Several of you have opted to also participate in raising funds for the organization. For any participant raising over $300, they will receive a division level crown and sash and become one of the Celebrate Freedom Hospitality Queens. The top fundraiser in age group 0 - 10, and 11 - older, will receive the larger crowns and become the Celebrate Freedom Miss Liberty Queen. IF this is something you intend on doing, please let me know ASAP so I can ensure we have enough crowns on hand.
Escorts: Union Grove High School JROTC will provide escorts for girls 7 and older - a quick rehearsal will be conducted prior to each segment of the pageant.
On Stage speaking: There will be an onstage question for girls 17 and older. There are no onstage questions, interviews, or introductions for girls 0 - 16.
Each group of girls will have three appearances in front of the panel of judges. First will be a walk across the stage as the group is introduced, individual time as you are escorted onto the stage and conduct your walk in a front "T" shape, and a final group lineup for those participating in optionals.
I do hope I've answered all your questions. Do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions.
Good luck to each of you.
See you soon!
