I'm sorry but I'm going to pass on your offer. My wife knows only too well that I've never liked theorizing about "What if" situations and this smacks a little too much like that or, perhaps, an invitation to exercise a lurid imagination. Sorry but I'm just not that imaginative.

To close on a postive note, though, as previously noted, based on my own experience as a closeted youthful smoker for many years, I can relate to young people smoking and will do anything I can to help them. Why? Because I like to smoke, I like to smoke with others, and I like to see others smoke.

I would be the first to admit that, for many, myself included, there is a sexual component to smoking but fictionalizing that on a page devoted to teen smoking seems just a tad too sleazy. I have answered all questions honestly and have shared what I've been comfortable sharing but this latest turn is clearly too far outside of my comfort zone.

I would like to continue to read about your smoking experiences and to learn what you and others in your group think about and feel and experience by smoking. Among other things, given the complete change regarding the social acceptability of smoking and the opportunity to smoke, plus what is now "known" (real or not) about smoking, do you guys view the experience the same way I did when I was your age? I started in 1960 and the infamous surgeon-general's report didn't come out until 1964 (althugh I have to admit that, even before 1960, we knew that smoking wasn't the most healthy thing we could be doing) so, to some extent, I can plead ignorance prior to becoming hooked. What's your excuse? The pleasure versus risk argument? I can buy into that. Is that why young people continue to take up the habit?

So the ball is in your court. If you'd like to continue our little dialogue, I'd like that and will continue to hold up my end being as honest and open as I can. But if picking up on the "What if" type of scenario you've posed is a condition to continue it, then I wish you, your other posters, and all smokers everywhere well.
