Will is right that you have to stay active and keep working the cardio-vascular system. As long as you keep working out, you'll be ok. I smoked 6-10 cigs a day all thru high school and played varsity tennis and softball. I never had a problem with smoking affecting my stamina. I still workout and run regularly to keep in shape and to (hopefully) offset somewhat the effects of smoking. I still play tennis for fun and do a lot of surfing. So far, so good. So remember, you can smoke and still be an athlete.
