Caitlin,
Yes, generations of smokers in my family certainly have made smoking for me a more pleasurable experience. I haven't had to go through the stress of angry parents/family members.
I think the main reason I started smoking more in college was that I simply had more time to smoke. In high school, I didn't sneak and smoke during the school day. Also, I played varsity tennis in the fall and varsity softball in the spring, so I was pretty busy. About all I had time for was a couple in the morning, a couple between school and sports practice, and a few in the evening.
But in college, you're not in class as many hours per day, plus you can smoke between classes; and nobody is giving you a hard time for smoking.
Right now I've been on a Misty menthol 120s kick since January. A chat buddy suggested them and I was surprised at how good they were for a "discount" brand. I was a Benson & Hedges menthol smoker from 15 until last year about this time when Philip Morris changed the taste of B&H. In the summer I tried More menthol 120s and smoked those until the Mistys. I still smoke some B&H and some Mores; and always have a pack of each of those handy as well. Over the years, I've at least tried most of the major menthol brands (and many non-menthol) out there, and will pick up a pack of something else from time to time just for a changeup. I've always smoked full flavors until the Mistys which are considered lights, but have about the same tar/nic numbers as a B&H full flavor. They certainly taste and smoke like a full flavor.
I realize I'm rambling a bit, but I hope that answered some of your questions.
Best wishes,
Rita
