Many people interprete the Buddha's teaching as 'life is suffering'. This is not accurate. What he said, basically, is that life involves dissatisfaction. I find the word suffering to be too strong. At times, yes, it is involving suffering, but generally it is more like dissatisfaction. Many find that too bleak and negative, but it needs to be followed over time to realsie he meant it is like that if we hold to our general attitude to life, people, and things.
We go through life with desires, wants, demands and expectations. I know from personal experience and from close friends that many problems, depressions etc are really down to expectations. So many times i have listened to firends upset, disappointed or depressed and found that it was manly due to life not living up to what they had expected.
The point the Buddha was making was live life fully in the moment, do your best, but having done so, accept what comes your way. Dont demand that everything works out wonderfully or lasts forever. If you accept that, then you can live with the ups and downs in life.
