Subject: The Sea at Night

Just to talk about something different, one thing I did for the first time this holiday was to walk down to the shore at night...pitch-black night that is, thankfully we weren't in an area where the shore is dominated by neon and flashing lights.

Yes, I was blind drunk okay. Well not really Blind drunk, but me and my Sisters boyfriend Dan had gone through almost an entire bottle of Vodka by this point (we finished the rest off when we got back, only about a fifth of the bottle, and were really amazed that we'd gone through it all), I'd had a four-pack of lager also and he'd had I believe two cans of Cider (Koppaberg Pear I do believe).

But anyway basically I was drunk enough to suggest this, and he was drunk enough to be up for it. Which was a good thing, as it was something I Really wanted to do (but something I hadn't thought about till that moment strangely). Milly was of course up for it - taking my Dog for a walk at night is just an exercise in opening the door for her then noticing this white shape occasionally rushing around in the distance (it's when the awfully nice-smelling furry little things come out to play you see). So we each pre-rolled a couple fags (pitch black out there remember) and off we went.

So yeah, the sea.

Standing there was just amazing. The sound you can't really describe but essentially it's lite the waves crashing on the pebbles during the day, except without the noises of life (Sae Gulls, other people and such) and amplified about ten times so all you hear is this continual crashing then sighing as the waves break then move back from the pebbles.

The view was something else entirely though. There were about six lights on the sea somewhere, and that was it for light - I don't even remember seeing the Moon. So what you had was a vision of blackness...the horizon line (it might have been the skys or the seas half I don't know) was a deeper purer shade of black then anywhere else, sort of bowed in right in the centre of my eye-line then stretching out either side to nothing (doing it quite quickly). Then you had the black of the sea, but as each little wave came moving in to you there was another line of black the same pureness as the one on the horizon, except this one was of course moving very gracefully; they were all triangles of black, moving forwards and slightly sideways, then as each wave broke just Exploding in a vision of pure white.

So I'm stood there, watching these little black lines moving inexorably towards me that then break into a storm of pure white foam on the beach.

It was quite a sight.

...I think that one really needs a lot more work.
