Our system has nothing to do with it. As I told you, this is a foreign company, and those who run it are so cunning that they are twisting the law to their favor. Whenever something in the Syrian law is for the benefit of the employee, they say "we cannot follow the Syrian law, we are a foreign company and have to follow the rules of our HQ" and when some benefits are given by their HQ to their international employees, they say "but the Syrian law does not provide for these, so you are excluded".. very sneaky.

I might be no one, and most probably I will stay with my job, but it doesn't hurt to try to do something, right?

I sent my CV to three firms. Two of them called me back and I was interviewed by them. The first one, also a foreign company, offered me a salary equal to two thirds of what I am paid by my current employers. The sum is still good and I could manage with it, BUT what made me decline is that they work 6 days a week, not 5, and I do need to have Saturdays off, so I declined.

I liked the post I was offered by the second firm (this one is local). Quite different from what I have been doing for the last 15 years.. but unfortunately, the salary is about 1 third of what I am paid now, and there is no way I can manage with that. I didn't get a reply from the third firm, but I suspect that their salaries are also not that high.

Well, I know I will be waiting eagerly for my current employers to call and ask me to come back.. but I feel a little better about myself.

>Hoping to meet you one day in Damascus.

I'll be waiting. And if I could negotiate with my company to raise my salary in the new contract, I will take you out to lunch.
