Only in some blocks. Very few of them.It was originally before there were clocks and alarms where one man would stay up to make sure that the others get up before dawn to have their Sohor meal, but then it became a tradition, one of the traditions that are linked in our minds with Ramadan nights when we were little kids. The lucky ones of us would get up in the middle of night when they hear the drum and next day they brag in front of their pals.

I always tell my kids about my memories with (Abu Tableh= Drum Man) but they never saw one.
