Well, since he told me, I have tried the same, and it is possible.
I find there's a sort of first thought on the issue, which you can spot, and then you have to put your mind on something else. If you let the mind have several thoughts then emotions kick in and you get involved, then its really hard, so you have to catch it before it dives in, and you have to have some other pleasant or important issues ready so as soon as you spot it happening you move the mind to one of those.
