There has always been hypocricy on these subjects. The Victorians were the worst hypocrites.
I know someone who used to run a brothel. She was paid by the prostitutes to look after them and the place, so it was sort of a collective. She loved the job.
The police knoew all about it. Occasionally they would get a bloke try and take over. On one occasion a man turned up and demanded they be run by him. They called the police. When the police came they basically beat him up and dragged him off. They knew the place wasnt run by a mob or pimp and protected them. How many laws they broke in doing that, I dont know.
