The thing is that this could have been going on for a while without me noticing. Actually my kids complained about lost things many times before, but because we are not a very orderly family we were never sure whether those things (and sometimes money) were lost or misplaced, and that's why I never suspected the maid (let's call her "R") to have stolen anything before, she just does not seem of that type of people.

Unfortunately, this time I am sure it is her. The money was stolen from a box in which my daughter saves coins. In several occasions my daughter (17 yrs old) made comments about the money in the box not getting increased in the same pace in which she is adding to them. Whenever I asked her whether she was sure she would say no and that she wasn't sure if there is anything missing as she didn't count them but just judged by the weight of the box.

Unfortunately, this time I counted them.. it wasn't because I suspected R or anything.. I just counted them for no apparent reason that morning and returned the box to its place. I was the last person to leave the house after I let R in, and I was the first person to come back home on that day. R had just left and, again I don't know why, I counted the money and found out that 20 pieces were missing.. that's about the amount I pay her per day. Now, if she would steal from that box, I can think of tens of incidents in which we lost things (including money) and can’t help thinking that it might be her…

I wish there was any space for doubt but not this time, and this really saddens me. She is coming tomorrow, as usual, and I haven't decided what to do yet..
