Ooh, a discussion happened!

Perhaps it’s true that we all know each other’s views too well as Michael says. But I like Rana’s idea. I bet all of us think interesting thoughts each day as we go about our various lives. I’m always wrestling, for example, with the question of whether there are really genuine stupid people in the world, or whether they are just people who have not had the opportunity to develop their ability to think. Sometimes I feel incredibly negative about humans, such as when I go to Newquay in holiday season and come across hundreds of lumpen young men with shaved heads and their shirts off revealing pink sunburnt flab, buying crates of cheap beer and pot noodles. Perhaps we should come in here and raise these questions with each other.

For me, iteo, the reason I don’t get involved in discussions on your findings is because several years ago I was also involved in the kinds of research you’re doing, so it is quite familiar to me. I found that I just got bogged down with reading hundreds of contradictory, difficult to prove ideas, and it tired me out, so I decided the only way to carry on was to leave it and just try to live a reasonably decent life, and if the world is run by Illuminati conspirators and is about to end, so be it. Plus, when I started reading academic stuff for my degree I began to question things on a different level again, about multiple realities and forms of representation that leaves EVERYTHING up for question anyway. I ended up in a “postmodern” void – and trusted nothing. Not always a useful place to be in if you need to function on a day to day basis.

I also think it is difficult to debate these kinds of things as you have to devote your life to reading the same stuff in order to really get into it debate, and most people just don’t have the time.

Anyway, I like Rana’s idea. I think, even if we don’t actually take it in turns, we should make more effort to come in and post random thoughts, ideas, experiences and questions to spark discussion.
