I don't think this is a yes/no question. I understand some of it and am learning more.

I neither like nor dislike it. It is simply useful at times.

I use it in MSN and chat rooms.

I would say practicality. But I don't believe people use it in their every day communication. I don't think you use it in letters, emails or phone conversations. It isn't practical or useful in those situations.
