It has occurred to me a couple of times that the solution to some of the problems in the middle east may be to reorganize some of the territory, and perhaps create more countries. Iraq was cobbled together by the French and English at the end of the first world war, and if they had more input from the local tribes, they might have made a more sensible set of boundaries. Perhaps the Kurds should have had their own state, for example.
