Sticks and stones can break our bones but names can really hurt us. Sometimes they aren't really just words, they are the things we associate with the words. We all have different pasts and backgrounds and we are going to react differently to certain words. True, we should all consider ourselves equal today but we all bear the scars of discrimination in some form or other. There are certain things you could say or names you could call any one of us that would cause hurt feelings or anger. Say them to another person and they wouldn't react at all. It is all subjective. We won't all truly be equal until we no longer bear the scars of past discrimination. So I don't think we can claim equality yet.
