JUDGING OBAMA BY THE COMPANY HE KEEPS
September 9, 2009
I am writing in response to Clarence Page's recent commentary piece ("Slinging mud," Sept. 9).
While Mr. Page criticizes conservative media for causing the resignation of former White House "green jobs czar" Van Jones, he fails to even mention the reason Van Jones was forced to resign: his very own comments.
It certainly is easy for Mr. Page and his fellow liberals to create an enemy in TV host Glenn Beck, but the fact remains that it was Van Jones' own words, caught on video, that shocked America and forced his resignation. Add to that his signature on the "9-11 Truther" petition, and it's pretty clear the conservative media had little to do with Van Jones' firing. Van Jones got himself fired.
Despite what Mr. Page asserts, the Van Jones controversy is not just about politics; it is about policy. It is about why the White House had a self-avowed communist in a position of power. It is about why President Obama's senior adviser (and fellow Chicagoan) Valerie Jarrett recently glowed about bringing Van Jones into the administration -- because, as she stated, "we've been watching him ... for as long as he's been active out in Oakland."
During last year's campaign, then-candidate Obama shrugged off questions of his affiliation with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers by urging us to judge his presidency by the people with whom he surrounds himself.
Well, President Obama surrounded himself with the likes of Van Jones -- a self-avowed communist, who has made racist statements and signed a petition insinuating that former President Bush had something to do with the 9/11 terrorist attacks. And how about the Obama "Science and Technology Policy Czar" John Holdren, who once considered forced abortions and sterilizations a solution for population growth?
President Obama invited us to judge him by the company his administration keeps. We are doing just that.

Excellent letter - and sadly, this is what happens -- Jeannine, 16:32:56 09/10/09 Thu [1]
when you have the media in the bag for a candidate. He can do no wrong. Sarah Palin was ridiculed for the "palling around with terrorists" line but it is true. BO himself told us to judge him by who he surrounds himself with. Personally, I don't like what I see.
I thought the speech last night was pathetic. He CANNOT HELP HIMSELF. The man who preaches personal responsibility lectures us on what is and isn't true - anyone notice that during the speech the number of uninsured went from 47 million to 30? Didn't notice? I did. 17 million aliens went missing all of the sudden. hmmm.
The saddest part is that all those young voters who thought they had a leader they could believe in will learn that the emperor has no clothes.
For the record, I do not think that the outburst by the republican on the floor was right. It was wrong. I know it happened to Bush, but he would be the first to censure the man that did it.
Meanwhile, the Iranians continue on the path to nukes, Chavez and Putin get friendlier, Afghanistan gets worse every day, China is upset at our debt and tomorrow is the 8th anniversary of the attacks on America.

Please don't speak on behalf of the young voters. -- Jenn, 19:51:11 09/10/09 Thu [1]
You have no idea if they will be disappointed or delighted with what happens in the years to come.

I didn't -- Jeannine, 20:13:02 09/10/09 Thu [1]
I would never presume to speak for young voters, old dried up woman that I am. I do not speak for anyone but myself. I said I am sad for them, but gee, maybe they will be delighted. And maybe monkeys will fly out of my ass.

Not exactly. -- Jenn, 15:05:27 09/14/09 Mon [1]
I knew what the abbreviation meant. But I was sarcastically saying "lovely" to the monkey comment, and for that to be her "thoughts exactly" didn't really make sense. To me anyway.
