Subject: I'm surprised.

I know it's my own decision to participate in the discussions on this board. I just have to say, that I find myself surprised that rational and respectful debates seem so impossible to happen here. I guess I'm just naive, right? I really like and care for my RT family, but this is just destructive. I'd like to have discussions with people here that I respect and that might give me new perspective. If I only speak with people who agree with me, how will I ever learn anything?

Without fail, any good conversation here ends with pot shots, condescension, hit and run posts, fake names to post under. It's cowardly and hurtful and entirely unnecessary, and please know that no one is fooled by it.

I really care for my RT family. But I don't care for this at all. I hope we can all get back to the intelligent debates that I know we are capable of having.

I have tried to figure that out myself. I get so frustrated with the closed mindedness of some people. Their beliefs are always the right way, no matter what.

I have been one of the worst offenders, as demonstrated by the monkey remark (for which I sincerely apoligize, Jenn). This is a very critical time for our country and emotions run high. We are a family at RT, and are familiar enough with each other to take that for granted at times, much like I know an altercation with one of my sisters will be forgotten over time.

To set the record straight, I was not trying to antagonize anyone when I posted the article about Dubya below. I honestly thought people would enjoy it and from the looks of things they did (well, mostly.... you gotta love Jayjay, lol).

I would hate for this to go away, so I will try harder. Thanks.

I do wish that ip addys were displayed. It would cut down on hit and runs.

This board mostly amuses me and that's it. I find it difficult to engage in true debate because it seems that people from both "sides" think that the OTHER "side" is guilty of single-mindedness, generalizations, stupidity... It's the old pot calling the kettle black, just wait 4 years and it'll will be the same thing in reverse!

I, too, would enjoy engaging in actually well-thought exchanges of opinion but I have yet to be able to do so...and I'm sure it's just as much my fault as "theirs."

I'm very glad to see you here, though!

I was watching one of the programs on 9/11 and wondering why we couldn't all be as united as we were on that day. I look forward to intelligent, civil debates on current issues. I've been guilty of the sarcasm as much as anyone and I don't usually engage in that. It's very hard to convey feelings in internet postings. Something typed is many times interpreted in a different way than it was intended.

Like someone said last week...."Can't we all just get along?" LOL!
