Subject: Thank for the lively discussion on FTWM, But on Creationism....

I have to really take issue here. As a Scientist and a Christian I am deeply concerned with the view of science. First, while people LOVE to state that evolution is a theory, I don't think they understand what theory means in scientific circles. Is certainly DOED NOT mean that it is kind of true and we will think that for the moment? Actually a lot of evidence goes into making something a theory. It is the BEST model of what happened in the past. The future of science will be perfecting this idea. I would like to share another notable theory. The theory of gravity. It has never been proven (mathematically of scientifically), but is the basis of the entire field of physics.

Science should be taught is science classes. As a closing comment I would like to say that the Bible is not a science book. It is a WHOLE LOT more. To degrade it to something man-made as science is an insult to religion. Religion should be taught is homes and churches and is just as important (if not more)as science.

Just as the Big Bang model is a theory. And, as I remember (from college philosophy class) something cannot come nothing. There are science classes and philosophy classes (covering proofs for the existence of God) so, I don't see any reason to teach creationism in schools. I think teaching philosophy rather than creationism is a better way to inform children and to make them think. Religion, as you say, should be taught at home and in churches.

On a separate note, I like the series The Naked Archaeologist.

I'm thinking about the China and India. Both of those civilizations are so much older than the Western Christian one. Considering the amount of immigration from those countries, who might not be Christian, I wonder how they fit into this push for teaching Creationism.

Just today I was watching a program about Chinese school system. So it's by coincidence that we have been talking about educational system in the USA, so I thought I'd pose this question because it is an interesting tangent.

I have always thought that religion should be taught at home and at church. At school, children should learn about the world in addition to the basics of the 3 R's. Chilren should also learn critical thinking, art, social sciences, and pure sciences. The last ones, especially are greatly neglected in some schools. That's just my humble opinion. :-)
