Subject: It may well be the major difference
In reply to: HF 's message, "Very simplistic, but I think this is one of the major differences between Dems and Repubs" on 16:00:27 01/29/08 Tue

but in my view, being smart and healthy does no good if you are dead. Harsh, yes, but that is what I think.

Please note that I said National DEFENSE, not OFFENSE.

Also, I would like to make it clear that this did not come easily to me. I was a life long democrat. The last Dem I voted for was Bill Clinton. At the same time, I was living in the Middle East realizing that the majority of people there hated me. Not because of anything I did, but because I did not believe as they did. Meanwhile, back in Washington, the military was being descimated by the President. We are still feeling the effects of that now. There are times in history when a strong National Defense is warranted. One of those times is now.

I like to say (in my smart ass way) that I used to be a Democrat, and then I grew up. It is nowhere near that easy. I can certainly understand your point of view and respect it but I am very comfortable believing as I do.

In my view, being alive does you very little good if you have to struggle constantly. If you can't find employment, food or health care, I'm not too sure what the point of living is.

It's all so simplified and neither you nor I is right, but I think that for this election a lot of people are seeing things in black and white.
