Going through page 17, first part, you can find the answer to your doubt, not only about how fast sts learn but also about new roles for teachers, learners and materials. It is clear for us the necessity to rethink our attitudes before the way we teach our sts, and the changes concerning this area. It's worthwhile to take a deep look at it. I hope it helps.
