Simone and Kátia,
I don't know if I'm correct, but in this part of the text I understood that students will learn (acquire the language) faster (two or three years) if they are exposed to contextualized use of language ( with cohesion, coherence, etc).However, if they are exposed to decontextualized forms of language it will take a long time to acquire the language (five to seven years)and in this case Ss will have difficulties in general scholastc performance.
