It is not very clear for us what the author says on page 65 of this text about 'collocation' and 'lexical cohesion'. It says that collocation is not a semantic relation between words, but it refers to the probability that lexical items will co-occur. It also says that it is debatable if collocation belongs to the notion of ‘lexical cohesion’ since “lexical cohesion” is considered only exact repetition of words and the role played by certain basic semantic relations between words in creating textuality, which is the property of a text which distinguishes it from a random sequence of unconnected sentences. Can anybody help us understand that and provide us with some examples?
