>I believe that we provide our students the notion of genre all the time, but in a natural way, specially in spoken discourse. By the way, our mission is teaching a second language as a tool of communication, so that students can perform well in their relationship around the world. I think the problem is that genre is not considered an approach as suggested at the text. I also believe that language occurs in the genre domain, because an isolated sentence does not mean anything. But when this sentence has a social function, it is meaningful.
On the other hand, I believe we are unaware and sometimes we are not prepared to teach some different genres specially in ESP. For example, sometimes it is hard for me to understand the text type of an e-mail written by teenagers. I think genre is also related with culture, gender and also the media. What do you think? Am I on the way?
