&BREATHE Hell, it was over-rated being flashy anyway. Amadeus, stocky and shaggy, found the scent of the other stallion far before he even glimpsed him. And in truth, the idea of meeting a stranger was two-parts daunting and one-part sheer joy. Although he wasn't bred here - there were vague memories of being young in an area less green and more heavily armed with sharp fangs - this was his home and had been for some time. This was where he had trampled over young shoots with other yearlings and then found love, and oh God, all that sentimentality, battled crazed beasts -- Amadeus was not going to get too far ahead of himself. He breathed in slowly and deeply, filling his lungs with the crispness of mountain air, opening his ribcage to both open his heart and sharpen his mind but these actions were wholly useless to the outsider's eye. In truth, he was still a messy-looking auburn thing, surely too short to look imposing. Then again, he'd never really had occasion to explore the full extent of his aesthetic qualities.
He marched forward at a brisk pace; it was a jaunty, carefree trot, utterly fearless and hence also something undeniably smug about the way he placed each step. Oh yes, he knew every sliver of grass he trod on, he knew every indentation stamped into the earth, and the arrival of this other did not make him wary for his land. It was simple curiosity that spurred the chestnut forward and when he saw the other, he saw the odd assortment of equine features he knew could only belong to one who firstly, didn't really give much of a damn about his appearance, but secondly, probably had some internal bizarre complex about it. He stopped and took in the sight - golly, he was a tall one wasn't he? Although everyone to Amadeus was tall. That was what happened if you were only born under fifteen hands; everybody else was a freaking God.
"Just came from the farm?" he asked in a tone of voice that wasn't entirely unfriendly. Hell, even his eyes were grinning. "I'm Amadeus," he added in an offhand sort of way. And for the first time in several moons, he kept the and I'm the king of the world to himself.
