到目前為止，尚未收到政府對普教中的明確指示。

在小學方面，很多學校也推行普教中，並且有部分學校會要求學生自費參加一些為小學生而設的普通話水平測試，作為小學生離校時的一些語上水平的指標。

在中學方面，由於中一新生來自不同的小學，普通話的水平很參差，故一般學校只會在初中小規模地推行普教中。又由於在新高中中國語文課程中，只在其中一個選修單元中有普通話的元素，故一般中學都減慢了在高中推行「普教中」的步伐。此外，由於中三同學要考全港性系統評估，這也影響學校採用普教中的決心。現在，縱使已採用普教中的學校，很多也會要求學生參加粵語口試。

根據香港的情況，如政府認為時機成熟，提出在中學文憑試對學生普通話水平有要求，那時，情況便會不同。我相信，這是遲早會發生的事。

噢換而言之，就是政府沒有明確指示，但普遍學校也認為將會推行，所以陸續推行普教中
