Bob,

No worries, you can take out your lock and nothing will fall out or come apart. The mainspring is under tension, but won't come apart unless you take it apart. You need to invest in a mainspring vice anyway, it is essential.One of the better muzzleloading books will show how to take things apart and put them back together again.
