I enjoyed reading your post and found it quite interesting. I don't have an answer to your question, but I can say that I have read this information before in other sources. I have also seen children with permissive parents whose outcomes were dramatically different. For example, one of my best friends in high school had parents who were definitley permissive. However the outcome for her and her siblings was not as good as the outcome for your cousins. Both my friend and one of her siblings ended up in a lot of trouble and their trouble ultimatley contributed to their mother having a heart attack. This trouble also significantly impacted the parents' relationship. This makes me wonder if your cousins developed a strong internal locust of control or were influenced by others...or perhaps they might be anomolies?
