Good post Tammy. I wanted to respond because I too have a brother who was adopted and I had not thought about him in relation to heredity-enviornment theory until reading your post. Unlike in your case, my brother is actually 5 years older than I. It is interesting that you mentioned your brothers disdain for household chores because my brother always made me do his. But along those same lines I have always noticed that my brother is far more neat than the rest of my family, including myself. Not that the rest of us are slobs but he is what some would call a neat freak. I always wondered where he got it from because he was raised by the same mother that I was (our father wasn't really around much). I suppose heredity could have something to do with it. My brother looks nothing like my family, he has red hair, freckles and very light skin. However, occasionally we will have someone tell us that they could tell we were brothers, that we look a like. We usually get a pretty good laugh out of that. But I think that looking at my brother and I, it is clear that heredity plays a big roll in who we are and have become. My brother has always had a very high IQ, more so than the rest of my family. I always envied him because while I studied constantly to get Bs and Cs he never studies and got straight As. My brother was always bored with school work though and eventually decided to take his GED as soon as he was old enough just to get finished. He is still a very intelligent person but it is interesting that while he has a far greater capasity to retain infromation than I do, it is I who has gone further in education. In the end I think it was a disadvantage for things to come so easy for him, he just never seemed motivated to work for it. I on the other hand always felt like I needed to prove my self.
