I agree with you totally. A student that has self esteem will usually not act out in class and learns more. I do not think that self esteem has anything to do with competency though. Students with low self esteem I find are doing poorly and acting out so their peers will think that they are cool. I agree with your statement and feel that if we build the students self esteem they will do better in the classroom.
