I agree with you. I am experiencing this diplay of emotional development, if you will, in many of my students. I have a young man that is home with his mother and three siblings and no father present. Mother's health is declining by way of a recent heart attack and he is having to pick up the pieces at home. I don't know how well it's going for him there but at school it's not. He acts out to get attention and bullies those that allow him. He seeks peer approval from his "boys" at school and in turn his self-worth sky rockets as a result. Our children are having to grow too soon/fast in this fast paced society, but can not handle it. It's too much too soon. They are not prepared. We as adults know when preparation meets opportunity it's an awesome feeling which promotes high self-esteem.
