I learned boning just from the pageant dresses I have bought over the years. Basically you just place the boning between the top and liner layer on the seams. I found it easier to sew the top layer and liner layer together first leaving both sides of the back open, you can also leave it open at the seams instead, but I found that to be hard to hand stitch closed. Measure and cut the boning to fit where you need it, then place it acrossed the middle of the seam allowence on the inside, I line it up with the top layer seam and pin in place. Then stitch about a 1/4 inch on either side of the existing seam. You can use a zipper foot to get as close to the boning as possible or use the thin type of boning you can sew through.
Hope this helps some!
