Subject: NEA Girls Basketball

Who will come out on top in the NEA this year?

Opinions:

Colfax Bulldogs: They were the state champions my freshman-senior years in high school. I'm betting that these girls will come out on top again this year. With a coach like Baerlocher, and players like Harazin and Teade, these girls are lethal. It wouldn't surprise me if they made it back to the top this year. I LOVE watching them play. Their style of play is sooo intense. Excellent ball-handlers, all the way around. I remember post Lauren Mellor dribblin' down from half-court and making a lay-in. Excellent ball movement.

Lakeside Eagles: The loss of Kia Gibson will really hurt this squad, but someone will be there to fill in her shoes. There always is.

Kettle Falls Bulldogs: My heart goes out to these girls, they try so hard on the court, they just can't seem to post up any wins. Remember the days of Lizzie Beardslee, and Tasia Tracy? Those were some quality Bulldog players right there. We won't see Tory Tracy this season.

Chewelah Cougars: The loss of stand-out player Nikki Nelson is really going to hurt this squad.

Freeman Scotties: I'm kind've disappointed in this program. Remember the days of Floyd, Taylor, DePell, Baker, and Moberg? These girls flat-out dominated on the court. Remember their 83-10 Timberlake game? Or when they posted up a win down in Colfax (51-36) for the first time in school history. The program plunged when DePell graduated. And we've also lost Jenessa Miller to graduation. What were their other senior player's names? I don't recall, but I do remember wondering why exactly they put Rechelle Lewis on a varsity team? It really didn't seem as if she knew what was going on at all while on the court. Who do we look toward? Raines, Carrell, McIntyre. I'm pretty sure Heinen will take the role as scorer this year.

Newport Grizzlies: I loved watching these girls play. Remember Maria Barranco? She was an exciting player to watch [once dropped 38 in a Colfax game.] I'd like to see these girls pick up their intensity and move-up a couple spots in the league. Last season they lost to Colfax by like 12, if I remember right?? If they stepped their game up, they'd be a force to to be reckoned with. Ashley McDonald and Terece Hahn were lost to graduation.
