Prosecutors express their interest in U.S. attorney position
No word - President Obama has given no sign of haste to replace the Bush appointee

FACTBOX
• Three candidates

Dwight C. Holton, 43, Portland. Holton was a special assistant to the deputy chief of staff during the Clinton administration. He has worked since 1997 as an assistant U.S. attorney in New York and Oregon, often taking on environmental crimes. Notable case: He put charter boat captain Richard Oba behind bars for the reckless deaths of three passengers in a 2005 capsizing. Josh Marquis, 56, Astoria. Marquis has been Clatsop County's district attorney since 1994 and has served for more than a decade on the board of directors of the National District Attorneys Association. He is a vocal advocate for the death penalty and often appears on national radio and TV. Notable case: He put Linda Stangel behind bars for pushing her boyfriend to his death from a 300-foot cliff. Pete Shepherd, 54, Salem. Shepherd served in the state Department of Justice from 1987 until Jan. 4. He was Attorney General Hardy Myers' deputy for eight years and headed the department's financial fraud and consumer protection section for four years. Notable case: He put former Clatsop County District Attorney Julie Leonhardt behind bars for framing two police officers on drug charges. -- Bryan Denson

Three prominent career prosecutors have expressed interest in becoming the next U.S. attorney for Oregon if the Obama administration replaces Bush appointee Karin Immergut.

Dwight C. Holton, an assistant U.S. attorney for Immergut who worked in the Clinton administration, has applied for the job. So has one of the state's best-known district attorneys, Josh Marquis of Clatsop County. Pete Shepherd, who resigned last month as Oregon's deputy attorney general, said he also wants the job if the new administration makes a change.

The Senate is expected to confirm Eric Holder as the nation's next attorney general as early as next week, with key executive positions in the Justice Department to be filled thereafter. Appointments of the U.S. attorneys in various districts, including Oregon, could take months.

New presidential administrations typically replace sitting U.S. attorneys of another party after taking office. While it's unclear what the Obama administration will do in Oregon, the Justice Department sent an e-mail to its U.S. attorneys earlier this month, asking them to stay put until further notice.

Immergut, a Republican who was appointed Oregon's U.S. attorney in October 2003, has applied to become a state circuit court judge. She declined to comment on that application or the future of her present position.

"I honestly think it's not appropriate for me to comment," she said.

Oregon's senior U.S. Senator, Ron Wyden, is expected to convene a selection committee and take input from freshman Sen. Jeff Merkley before recommending a name to the Obama administration for the job of Oregon's U.S. attorney.

Wyden's chief of staff, Josh Kardon, described Shepherd, Marquis and Holton as "serious contenders" for the job. But he pointed out that others have shown interest in the position.

"Based on phone calls I've received, I'm anticipating other strong candidates," Kardon said.

Oh brother, there you go again blaming someone before you know any results.
If you are in tune with blogs this subject is Marquis running for attorney general.
If you have something to add to the topic of attorney general go for it, but readers don't care to see your posts regarding your take on people, so negative.
Are you aware you gossip and hit below the belt? You write like you have NO education!
This last post of your's is the post of a trouble maker!

Mr. McGee, it is one thing to use an anonymous fictional name and another thing to post as an actual person whom you are not. How tolerant would you if you found the same fraudulent thing happening on your forums or blogs?

On the other hand, we do enjoy or continued shots in the dark as to the identity of writers. I can't speak for your detection ability elsewhere, but here you have yet to guess correctly, even once after all these years.

Because I have family and do not want to be harassed for something I did not do I want to be VERY clear, here, that I am not this person that McGee is accusing me of being.

Whoever Sidney1Carton has banned, I had nothing to do with this banning nor do I have any responsibility for it nor control of it.

Patrick McGee has no right, whatsoever, of accusing me of having anything to do with this matter. Please do not direct any anger nor vengeance my way if you have been banned from this site. If you are banned at NCO you can always write to find out why.

McGee, I ask that you not endanger myself nor my family with your malicious allegations. I believe you posted a warning here that the person that someone has banned is not stable, therefore you know you have deliberately targeted me to someone who has questionable control of his actions. For your economic sake, nothing had better happen to me or mine.

Carrie, asking in a nice manner for Mcgee to stop his harassing should have worked.
I like everything you write, keep it coming.
