The Dead Bark of Old Moons

In the sinewy hours lit by the dead bark of old moons
in the wind-shake hammer of slap-jacked winds
the tidal tests of moods that shift and jar a soul
into the testimonial fires of:

"I did not live this life for me"

Like some provincial rain that comes crisp
from a latent spring that's been sprung too tight
some stored kinetic energy so fast relinquished
down the sliding sun into a new night fast and black

I blessed her spirit on the high brow of my cusp
the bent bow of this relentless pirates ship
about to give way to the eternal sea that never sleeps
that never sleeps but always knows my name

this is where I find the space, the cornea of her grace
to keep my time in line and faith in place

Out on the misty, foggy, clouds, of white puffed smoke
where tangerine dreams float without a thought of death
in the warmth of some angora fever, the wool of you
upon my skin, reminds me of your cambric soul

and so I dance on-- here with this pauper's heart
in the blade-grass of some long past century
some old soul rythum that taps the foot
as good ghosts all come fast in gathering

My parched desires scrubbed upon the walls of time
compromised by religion and my own great fear
in quaternaries of thoughts they fly with gulls
that wink a wing before they caw and cry
each to have no answers nor dominion over lies

this is where I find the space, the sweet corner of your grace
to keep my time and love in place

The sweet sauce of the tremulous times
that stole my heart in great remembrances
it would all crumble, crash and burn
if not for you and Mother's ash upon my brow

Into some sunlight 'morrow where the corn is gold
where the thrashing of the whale defines a story told
where the mast of my vessel blood and sailing ship
takes a final bow before it bends and dips

May my good-bye mean one more hello
may my life be one that someone may know
what I sight when with these aging sea-clad eyes
scenes of you in the eternal bountiful skies

for this is where I find good space, the evidence of your grace
that keeps my time with God in place

Dear Andy,
I don't know who Shala is or was, except so obvious is your love for her on so many levels. By your touching moving words, it seemed to me that she has passed on.
Your poetry is so exquisite. I look so forward to reading it. This one, in particular, brought tears to my eyes.
Hugs,
Wilopent

Thanks Wilo,

Actually Shalah is alive and well.

You can read our story in the Basement Blog if
you feel like it.

She posts here sometimes but she's been
busy lately.

Anyway, thank you so very much for leaving
me such a nice reply.

smiles,
andy

Andy, always when you can include me in a sentence about your Mother, I am moved to tears and humbled greatly. I know and understand all she is to you, so it swells my heart beyond words that are worthy to express when you say that in some way I bring her to mind. This is so beautiful, and I can't tell you how touching it is to find it and read it. I will save this always and it will be warmth for me on those days that bring cold winds. You truly do light up my world. I'm humbled and happy that in some way I can be warmth and light to you, as well. I love you greatly for who you are to me, and for who you are to the world. *huge hugs*
