In my occasional role as an S&M top (my natural inclination is to be a bottom), the scenes I've "choreographed" have generally revolved around the bottom receiving a painful whipping with a heavy leather belt. However, my most rewarding moment as an S&M top didn't really involve a whipping at all.
When I've had a bottom over to my place for an S&M scene, I might start by taking off the bottom's shirt. (This is intended to give him a little feeling of vulnerability.) Sometimes, I might then put a blindfold on the guy. (I generally don't recommend anyone doing this at the beginning of a scene with a new bottom as he may experience a feeling of loss of control before he's gotten to know and trust you.) However, I apparently have an "honest face" and never got a protest from a bottom the few times I've done this. Oh yes. For what it's worth, I'd promise the bottom I wouldn't inflict any serious pain on him while he was blindfolded. Then I'd put a bondage belt on him. My bondage belt resembles a garrison belt except that there are 2 leather loop restraints attached to the belt into which you "secure" the bottom's wrists. So the end result is that, when the bottom is standing, his legs are free, but his hands are restrained to his sides, slightly in front of his hips. The purpose of the blindfold is so that when I place the bondage belt on him and he suddenly finds his hands are restrained, his imagination might make more of it than it really is. Then, I might give the bottom a big "bear hug" from the rear. (When I've been a bottom, I wanted physical contact with the top, but I rarely got it.) Then, I might give the bottom several hand spanks or I might take off the 1-3/4" wide garrison belt I was wearing and give him a few strong whacks on his rear. Keep in mind that the bottom still has his jeans on at this point. So there's no real pain being inflicted during this period of "foreplay".
One time, I had a bottom over to my place in response to an ad I had placed in an S&M mailing. (That was in the days before the Internet.) After I had blindfolded the bottom and restrained his hands in the bondage belt, I took off the garrison belt I was wearing, doubled the belt over, and then "snapped" the belt slowly several times in order to see how the bottom would react to the sound. It was then I noticed that sweat was dripping profusely from the bottom's armpits! His body had betrayed the fear that he was obviously experiencing but which he had probably hoped to conceal! In some ways, that momentary feeling of power over him was more satisfying than the most severe whipping I've ever given. (Well, almost.)
