When I wrote this story and described the longshoreman as wearing a wide garrison belt, I didn't expect to find a photo on the Internet illustrating that. Then, I did an Image search on dock workers and very quickly came across this photo. The man (in the center of the photo) standing with his arms folded was not only wearing a 1-3/4" wide garrison belt, but he was wearing the buckle on his left side, just like the character "Jim" described in my story.
