Gentlemen,

I look forward to joining you on the field at Port Hudson.

I know that to some of you, getting up early in the morning to make some coffee in your mucket and frying up some bacon for breakfast is a highlight of your weekend. For others, ripping off the wrapper of a poptart works just fine to get your heart going. Then, there are those over-priced food vendors to whom you can hand over your hard-earned cash for a burger made of mystery meat and humble bread.

I offer you a different approach to things at Port Hudson.

Some of you have tasted my food at various events. I try to feed you healthy, period correct (it is often hard to do both given the lack of sanitation and healthy storage methods found in the 19th century, not to mention green meat, intestional worms, etc.) food at events.

Port Hudson will prove no different in my offerings- just in the manner in which I'll go about it.

I will be serving in two capacities. I'll be that old fart who will fall in ranks with the other elderly gentlemen in Company G (there are now four or five of us around 60 years years of age) as well as the crusty old man who will serve up delicious offerings from his sutlery facilities.

For the payment of a mere $12 for the weekend, I'll provide you with a snack Friday upon arrival (I will not help you carry your gear or build your shebang). I'll greet you with hot coffee, milk and sugar Saturday morning with fresh-baked blueberry and oatmeal scones, fruit, and other breakfast delights. You will draw a meal to carry to the field for a mid-day meal on Saturday. Later that day, you will enjoy a supper to fill your belly as it causes a delightful effect on your tongue (I am thinking of mixed pickles, fried catfish, hushpuppies, greens, coffee, and something sweet for dessert. But, I might also broil the catfish and fix a sauce to go over it that has crab, shrimp, and crawfish in it. I'll figure that out in a bit.). For those that pay to eat at my sutlery, I'll issue you a ticket that can be used to receive ice cold beer Saturday evening along with snacks (see, I am not selling beer- nor am I exactly giving it away to just anyone with a thirst for the adult beverage). Sunday will greet you with sweet breads, breakfast potatoes, eggs, meat, biscuits, and hot coffee enough to carry you through the battle. I'll give you something for the haversack as you depart.

Here is how I will handle things. Email me and let me know by Easter Sunday if you wish to partake and be ready to pay your $12 on your arrival. I'll issue your meal ticket to you at that time.

Do not wait until that weekend to let me know. I'll just have to send you to the chaplain to talk about your newly realized profound sadness at missing out on this offer.
