SJ, I am not going to shoot you down in flames for your thoughts in conclusion. In fact I'll go so far as to agree with you. It's a double edged sword. As I recall you don't have children yourself. On that I'm not sure. I'm sure there are spanking parents, in fact I KNOW there are spanking parents who are proud to hit their kids and actually enjoy it. They are not friends of mine. For my part I do hate spanking my girls. I look forward to it about as much as kids do. I believe that if done with love and mission most kids and young adults benefit from it.
Yes, there is satisfaction. Of course at those times when their defiance is overwhelming and so absolutely 'in your face', the age old power struggle, there is a certain satisfaction of putting one in ones place and re-establishing that I am the mom and I am the authority. That is minor, but it does exist I will admit. If I would call it satisfaction it comes from the after effects of seeing a happy, loved, loving, well centered beautiful young woman who knows that she is loved and cared for 100%.
I am admittedly a control freak, the difference being parents in my circle who are to the extreme of "Do as I say or you'll get a smack in the face." There are those parents who seem to have the philosophy that their children can be disrespectful and bullying to everyone else "But you better not be disrespectful to me." I am proud to say that my girls are very well behaved and respectful and understand that bad behavior has consequences.
I may have gone off the beaten path a little bit. I didn't mean to spend so much time on the one subject. I really have very little to add on the original question that hasn't already been said.
