Scarlet Tassels & One Teardrop

Like liquid honey
she poured,
hands wrapped tight
to the steel
in prayer

and the 'now'
kissed her dreams
goodbye
while she wept
inside
for the 'then'
she knew
would never
return

once upon a time
she felt exotic
and every ounce
a woman
daring to fight
to her last breath
for her dream

but now
wearing nothing but
scarlet tassels
and one teardrop...
out of fight,
and out of breath

she no longer dreams...
