Black Holes Lead to Bright Lights

When the immortal call of wolves surround the starving ear
the curled bodies of bad dreams awaiting death
in the ruins of bad choices where fate becomes forever
hope still reigns for those gone somewhere
somewhere in the black and sullen gap

When the hooves of horses beat their drums
the stacked irony of incomplete now finished
the radiant sun reflecting soft shoulders of defeat
that dip like moons and slowly slip away, to
somewhere in the black and sullen gap

When the tide is turning towards war mongers
fresh from champagne holidays
in the shadows of the innocent framed by guilt
all based on bad religion that now leads them, to
somewhere in the black and sullen gap

I have heard a single child cry for Mother
the pure agony of listening shook my soul
before I peeked over the shubbery to witness
the emptiness of lives filled with gold headed for
somewhere in the black and sullen gap

This testimony that implies I might have noticed
dysfunction has no claim beyond command
does not free me from the same when I am bitter
when my feet are full of mud and my direction's
somewhere in the black and sullen gap

But oh, how the church bells still awake me
in overtones of joy and fast rebirth
how the sinners all come rushing to him
how their souls swear they have come back from
somewhere in the black and sullen gap
