I agree with Chris. Maria, it is true America was trying to take steps toward prevention of being threatened but in the process the SAC escalated the Cold War. The creation of SAC made things like the Cuban Missle crisis a realistic threat, which was greater than any threat present before its creation. As a result of the SAC and an international growth in the production of atomic bombs, countries like North Korea have these weapons and it is still a threat to the US today.
