It has been awhile since I have seen the feature length Stooges films with Curly Joe DeRita, so it is difficult to judge his effectiveness.

Joe Besser was disliked by many fans during the heyday of the Stooges television reruns (primarily the 1960s through the 1980s.) However, I have come to appreciate his work more in recent years. Joe was certainly no Curly or Shemp, but had his own unique style ("not so haard" "that huurt"). I especially enjoy him in Hoofs and Goofs and the "space ship trilogy" of Space Ship Sappy, Outer Space Jitters and Flying Saucer Daffy.
