Subject: Hoi Polloi (1935)

The story begins with a discussion between two professors. Professor Nichols believes that social behavior is inherent, while Professor Richmond contends that it can be taught. The two men make a $10,000 bet that challenges Richmond to transform three lowly commoners into gentlemen. Larry, Moe and Curly are employed as garbage collectors, and make the perfect subjects to settle the wager. The result is a Three Stooges classic, and some favorite moments include:

"What happened? You're all canned up!"
"Now you're all bottled up!"

The lesson in table etiquette with imaginary food.

The Stooges get dance lessons from a young lady. A bee gets inside the instructor's clothing, and the ensuing chaos is energetically hilarious. This famous scene was used again in another Stooges short.

The snoring scene.

"Brother, can you spare a nickel?"

To demonstrate their newfound class The Stooges are invited to a society party. Reacting to a lady there applying makeup, Curly shaves his face.

Moe shakes Curly down for pilfered items.

Moe finds the eternal spring.

Dancing with a hefty female guest, Curly ends up with a couch spring stuck to the seat of his pants.

"My dear fellows, this is our punishment for associating with the Hoi Polloi..."

This was the first short on the "lowly men to gentlemen theme" and it always worked out great wih the trio. The end is funny as the people inside are still in high chaos and the trio slip out of the mansion in the fancy garb and move on in life! The first Stooges remake of "Hoi Polloi" was "Half-Wits Holiday" in 1947. Incidentally, the 1935 short was banned in Holland.
