Subject: New here...spouse of a diabetic

Thanks for the link here Laurel! I hope I can contribute helpful information here.

My DH has diabetes. He was diagnosed thru a urine sample years ago. He dumped sugar in his urine for years BEFORE it was found in his blood. He went to the Dr. & when they tested his bllod sugar it was fine...no meds were prescribed....just stay off the sugary foods. When it did show up in his blood it was 360!!!

Trial and error are helping us figure out his diet. What the Dr. & dietician told us is not really working. He takes Glipizide XL 10 mg. once a day. His average is running about 135.

Any "starchy" food raises his sugar SKY HIGH, so we are avoiding them like the plague. Sugar is not that much of a problem...example.. I fixed a cake for Easter. It was Angel Food cake & used sugar free(SF) Jello, SF pudding & Cool Whip Free. His blood sugar that evening was 122. If he eats a 1/2 cup serving of potato salad it will go over 200!
Ok....I heard the dryer buzz me. Will try to check in daily. Willow
