Subject: Speed Racer in 2016

I don't know if anyone is still on here, but here's some of the latest developments in the franchise:

In 2012, Tatsunoko sued Speed Racer Enterprises over allegedly continuing to earn money off of the property after their rights to it had expired. In 2014, the two settled the lawsuit by agreeing that SRE no longer had claim to the series.

The next year Tatsunoko announced their intention to make a new Speed Racer anime. The company also announced plans to release the 1967 series in HD. Two months later, Texas based anime distributor, Funimation Entertainment, had acquired the home video rights to the original series. Not only will the series be released on Blu-Ray with English audio, the original Japanese version will see its first North American release.

Earlier this year, one of the last vestiges of Speed Racer Enterprises surfaced: a new direct-to-video continuation of the original series, called Speed Racer: Race to the Future. The film was produced in 2013, during the lawsuit with Tatsunoko, by SRE and the Indian studio that did the second season of The Next Generation. If I were Tatsunoko, I'd file another lawsuit for creating that abomination.

The Speed Racer Wiki is still around for those looking to share thoughts.
