What a surprising end to a day of climbing. I particularly like it that you became brattier and brattier as the evening went on. You really wanted that paddling, didn't you?

Brother Alan, I'm a real wilderness lover myself. Hiking and backpacking from my early teens, climbing by age 20, but always with a blown knee (injured at 15). Lotsa class 3 alpine traverses, rock to 10D (slimed on tension), but i think I probably set a record for difficulty of terrain, weight of pack, and degree of knee degeneration. Circumnavigating Mt. St. Helens (steep, no trail) and 5.9 (Sunset Slab, Smith Rock) within a few years of my knee replacement.

I'm now a sea kayaker, which fills the void quite adequately, fortunately.

I don't want to get too far from spanking here, but are you still climbing?
