 I am a mom of a boy 11 and girl 8 and whether or not it is right, I grew up with the double standard that boys need to be punished more severely. I have a large extended family that meets frequently for dinner and birthday parties. At a typical gathering, one or more of the many children present get spanked, and the boys get it bare in the open, while girls will be taken to a bathroom or bedroom. It was just how we were raised and continued our parent's practices.
