Hi again, thanks for all the comments.
@Rachel: Thanks for sharing your experience, and I'm happy it worked out so well. My boyfriends' kids know that my daughter gets spanked, but they don't really know what it's like. I don't know for sure what's going on in their little heads. When the topic comes up, they act bewildered and amused, but I suspect they are both curious and a bit sympathetic.
@Uwe: Wow, a philosophy? That made me blush, but all I'm trying is to prepare my girl for life. Yes, she'd be the example for the others and my guess is that would be more important than any explanation I could come up with. I'm not sure about rituals.
@Chiara: Yours is a strange story, but I think I get it. You'd have had a miserable year being the only one in that family who didn't get spanked, right?
Sorry for taking long to reply and not writing privately. I just don't have the kind of time to check in every day or get into long e-mail exchanges right now.
